The University of Sargodha, in collaboration with the University of Queensland-Australia, University of Agriculture, Faisalabad, and Punjab Agriculture Department, is undertaking an ACIAR-funded research project (HORT/2020/129) titled 'Improving smallholder well-being through participation in modern value chains: Sustaining future growth in the Pakistan citrus industry'. This project seeks a dedicated female Social Mobilizer to facilitate community engagement and project implementation at the grassroots level. The role is pivotal in connecting research efforts with practical application, empowering smallholder farmers, and contributing to sustainable growth within the citrus sector.Qualifications and Experience
The candidate must hold at least 16 years of education, specifically a BS, BSc (Hons.) or an equivalent degree, in fields such as Sociology, Agricultural Extension/Agricultural Sciences (preferably Horticulture or Environmental Sciences), Rural Development, or other relevant disciplines. A minimum of two years of practical experience in rural development or community development is highly preferred. This experience should demonstrate a proven ability to work effectively with diverse rural communities and contribute to their upliftment.Key Responsibilities
The Social Mobilizer will be required to frequently travel to villages and project sites to engage with local communities. Key responsibilities include co-ordinating and supporting report-writing, actively participating in weekly/monthly meetings with Australian and local research teams, and being stationed in Sargodha to conduct project field activities. The role also entails performing as a focal person for project communication activities, taking responsibility for the implementation of project plans at assigned sites, and effectively communicating with farmers, other value chain actors, and project teams in both Pakistan and Australia. The successful candidate will be instrumental in bridging communication gaps and ensuring project objectives are met on the ground.Contract Details and Compensation
The initial appointment for this position will be for a period of six months, with the potential for extension until the end of the project life, based on performance and project needs. The salary offered is a gross amount of Rs. 70,000/- per month, in addition to travel and daily allowances, ensuring compensation for field-based activities.
