About the Position
The Ministry of Federal Education and Professional Training, in lieu of the MoU signed with the Centre of South Asian Studies, University of Cambridge, is inviting applications to fill the prestigious position of "Allama Iqbal Visiting Fellowship" South Asian Studies, University of Cambridge, United Kingdom. The position is open to all serving in the rank of Associate Professor or above on a regular basis in public as well as private universities.Basic Eligibility
- PhD degree from a HEC-recognized university / institution in a relevant research area in the humanities or social science.
- Having an excellent record of teaching and research.
- Will normally be at the level of Associate Professor or above.
Other Requirements
- A maximum of 55 years of age on the closing date of the advertisement will be eligible.
- Must be proficient in the English language.
- Familiarity with the culture, institutions, and people of the host country.
- Capacity and competence of leadership to project the language, history, and culture of Pakistan in the host country.
- Experience in mentoring, advocacy, communication, organizational (government / semi-government at senior level), budget management, research grants, diplomacy, media relations as spokespersons, and demonstrated involvement in academic staff associations, etc.
- Membership in professional or academic bodies, supported by documentary evidence.
- Research leading to quality publications during the tenure abroad is desirable.
- Proficiency in computer skills.
- Should have social as well as interpersonal skills to encourage a good image of Pakistan.
Application Requirements
Applicants are required to submit an academic Curriculum Vitae (C.V.) along with a one-page Statement of Purpose. The Statement of Purpose should clearly describe the applicant's interest in the fellowship and outline the objectives they aim to achieve through participation in the fellowship program.Responsibilities
- The visiting fellow will engage with students and scholars on Pakistan's history, culture, people, national and regional languages, eminent literary figures, geography and regional, economic and political environment in line with the academic requirements of the University.
- The visiting fellow will engage with university staff in the teaching of Urdu, Pakistan Studies, Pakistani literature, history, society and culture at the University.
- The visiting fellow will interact with academic community of the University with a view to positively contribute to the relations between Pakistani academic community and the University.
- The visiting fellow will be encouraged to attend the weekly seminars held at the Centre of South Asian Studies during the academic year and other academic fora on relevant issues in the University.
- The Visiting Fellow will engage with students and scholars of the University with a research interest in Pakistan as envisaged in the MOU.
- The visiting fellow will be encouraged to work with University staff to organize and conduct conferences, seminars, symposia, workshops or Art exhibitions showcasing Pakistan's culture.
Perks and Privileges
The Ministry will provide pay, allowances, research funds, travel costs (including return flights for the Visiting Fellow and family members (wife and children), visa costs, housing and rent for the Visiting Fellow, as determined by the Government of Pakistan and in line with the MOU.Terms and Conditions
- The tenure of the appointment will initially be for a period of three (03) years on a deputation basis / contract basis, extendable to a maximum of two years on a yearly basis, subject to satisfactory performance on a quarterly basis.
- The pay and allowances would be equivalent to BS-20 and BS-21 on the prescribed terms and conditions of the Government of Pakistan.
