Role Overview

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) invites applications for the position of Director Medical & Sports Sciences. The successful candidate will assist the Pakistan Cricket Board in managing medical & other research and analytic scientific services under the patronage of Pakistan Cricket Board. This critical role involves timely diagnosis, evaluation, treatment, and rehabilitation of players in the Pakistan Team and regional outfits at all tiers. The incumbent's main task is to create awareness and ensure the physical and medical fitness of the players.

About Pakistan Cricket Board

The Pakistan Cricket Board is engaged in promoting and developing the game of cricket in Pakistan and maintaining general control of the game.

Required Education and Experience

Candidates must meet the following criteria:
  • Minimum Medical or Physiotherapy Degree with MSc/Diploma in Sports Sciences from a recognized University in Sports Medicines.
  • Minimum 10 years' experience working with elite athletes and teams with a demonstrable proven record of such experience.
  • Preferably having experience of working with National and International Athletes.
  • Proven experience in a leadership role in medical and sport science, preferably in an elite sport setting.
  • Preferably should have obtained additional foreign certifications in the fields of Doping, Age verification, Physical training and Musculoskeletal ultrasound, injury prevention and management, nutrition, & rehabilitation.
  • Preferably should have experience of leading/interacting with specialist teams of Physicians, athletic trainers, Physical Therapists, and athletes.
  • Strong understanding of the latest research and best practices in medical and sport science.

The ideal candidate will possess leadership skills, be a problem solver, execution-driven, have good communication skills (both oral and written), analytical skills, and stakeholder management abilities. They should be able to work fluidly in a fast-paced environment.

Essential Functions, Duties, and Responsibilities

The Director Medical & Sports Sciences will be responsible for:
  • Keeping abreast of latest developments in the field of sports medicine.
  • Developing & implementing Action Plans to create awareness amongst Test, ODI, T-20 players representing Pakistan & on domestic circuit on PCB's health and fitness standards.
  • Creating awareness amongst players of the importance of nutrition and diet and educating players on personalized nutrition and diet control plans.
  • Guiding doctors, physiotherapists, and trainers on day-to-day routines both at the regional level and the National Cricket Academy.
  • Maintaining contacts with outsourced medical facilities such as hospitals and diagnostic centers, both domestic & international.
  • Formulating proposals for augmentation of the range of services provided by the medical center for consideration by PCB's management.
  • Developing, supervising, and implementing Continuous Development Programs for Physiotherapists and Physical Trainers affiliated with PCB.
  • Maintaining a database/Retaining medical history records of players representing Pakistan and playing first-class cricket with the help of regional physiotherapist/physical trainers.
  • Overseeing and tracking the rehabilitation of players.
  • Overseeing the delivery of medical and sport science services, including injury prevention, diagnosis, and management, as well as performance enhancement programs.
