Company Overview

The Lahore Electric Supply Company (LESCO), a State-Owned Enterprise (SOE), operates a power distribution network supplying electricity to over 6.62 million consumers across Lahore, Okara, Kasur, Sheikhupura, and Nankana. LESCO offers qualified lawyers an opportunity for a senior-level professional role as Chief Legal Officer (CLO).

Responsibilities and Skills

The Chief Legal Officer will report to the Chief Executive Officer / Board of Directors. Key responsibilities include:

• Management of all legal and regulatory affairs at LESCO.
• Providing effective legal advice and opinions, ensuring coordination with related departments.
• Developing and leading corporate legal strategies favorable to LESCO's interests.
• Rendering oral and written legal opinions to management, CEO, and Board of Directors.
• Liaising with and appearing before regulatory authorities and governmental bodies.
• Drafting legal instruments, contracts, and representations.
• Managing ongoing/anticipated litigation involving LESCO, coordinating with external counsel.

Required Skill Set:

• Thorough knowledge of laws, rules, and regulations pertaining to the electricity distribution sector.
• In-depth knowledge of market/industry trends from a legal perspective.
• Sufficient know-how and experience in legal affairs, litigation processes, advocacy, and practice before various courts (civil courts, high courts, tribunals).
• Understanding of modern legal practices (arbitration, mediation) and relevant local/international laws.
• Exceptional communication, interpersonal skills, and leadership ability.
• Ability to establish a clear vision for the legal department, diagnose legal issues, and generate practical solutions.
• Excellent advocacy skills and the ability to represent LESCO effectively.
• Demonstrated integrity, accountability, and responsibility.

Qualification and Experience

Minimum Qualification: Bachelor degree in Law (LL.B) from a reputable HEC recognized university. A Master Degree (LL.M) and/or Bar at Law will hold added weightage.
Experience Requirements:

• A minimum of 15 years of post-qualification relevant experience in the legal field.
• Sufficient exposure/practice before lower and high courts across Pakistan.
• Licensed Advocate of the High Courts of Pakistan.
• Deep understanding of prevalent laws, especially those governing the power/electricity distribution sector.
• Strong background in corporate, commercial law, and contract negotiations (preferably power sector related) at national and international levels.
• Exposure of work with Government and Regulatory Authorities.
• Compliance with the Fit & Proper Criteria and other conditions as prescribed in the State-Owned Enterprise Act, 2023.

Remuneration & Contract Period

A market-based competitive salary package commensurate with qualifications and experience, decided by the Board of Directors (BOD). The initial contract is for three (3) years, extendable based on satisfactory performance evaluated against Key Performance Indicators (KPIs).

Age Limit

Up to 57 years at the time of application.
