Chairman WAPDA

Position Overview

The Government of Pakistan is seeking a high-caliber, experienced, motivated, and dynamic individual with exceptional leadership qualities for the position of Chairman of the Water and Power Development Authority (WAPDA). WAPDA is a statutory organization established under the WAPDA Act, 1958, and is responsible for the execution of multi-dimensional water and power development projects of national importance. This is a contract-based position with a tenure of five years.

Eligibility and Qualifications

The candidate must meet one of the following criteria:

• Possess a graduate degree in Engineering from a university or institution recognized by the Higher Education Commission (HEC).
• OR
• Possess a master's degree in Business Administration or Management, or Public Administration or Finance, or an equivalent degree from a university or institution recognized by the HEC.
• OR
• Be a member of a recognized body of professional accountants.
• OR
• Be a civil servant in BPS-21 or above, or an officer of an equivalent pay scale in the armed forces of Pakistan.

Experience Requirement

The candidate must possess professional experience of not less than twenty-five years at the time of appointment, with at least eight years of experience at a senior or top managerial or administrative level post.

Areas of Responsibility

The Chairman will perform a range of high-level functions, including:

• Assisting the Federal Government in planning, executing, operating, and maintaining water and hydel power resources.
• Acting as the head of the Authority for its administrative, financial, and technical functions.
• Managing the water, power, and finance wings of the Authority.
• Dealing with national and international agencies, regulatory authorities, and other government bodies for the timely completion of projects.
• Undertaking any other assignment assigned by the Ministry of Water Resources or the Federal Government.
