About the Role
The National Bank of Pakistan is seeking a dedicated Backup Administrator at the Officer Grade (OG-II / OG-I) level to enhance its IT operations in Karachi. Reporting to the Unit Head - Backup & Replication, this role is crucial for maintaining the integrity, availability, and recovery of the bank's critical data. The successful candidate will be responsible for the day-to-day administration of storage and backup systems, ensuring compliance with organizational Service Level Agreements (SLAs) and Operational Level Agreements (OLAs), thus playing a vital role in operational continuity.Educational Qualifications
Candidates applying for the Backup Administrator position must hold a minimum Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Engineering, or an equivalent field. A Master's degree in these disciplines is also an acceptable qualification. The degree should be from a local or international university or college recognized by the Higher Education Commission (HEC). Preference will be given to applicants who possess relevant certifications, demonstrating specialized expertise in backup and storage technologies, which are essential for this role.Required Experience
A minimum of 3 years of experience in the IT field is required, with at least 1 year specifically in Systems Administration, Back-up Administration, or System Engineering. Prior experience in a banking environment is preferred, indicating familiarity with the unique demands and regulatory landscape of the financial sector. This experience should reflect a solid understanding of backup and recovery procedures, along with proven problem-solving abilities in data management.Key Skills and Knowledge
The ideal candidate will demonstrate the ability to work effectively within a cohesive, high-performing, closely knitted team. Excellent analytical, decision-making, problem-solving, team, and time management skills are essential for this role. Proficiency in MS Office suite, including Outlook, Excel, Word, and PowerPoint, is also required for effective communication and reporting. A strong understanding of various backup technologies and practices, including virtual tape libraries and enterprise-level solutions, is vital to manage the bank’s data infrastructure efficiently.Main Duties and Responsibilities
The primary responsibilities include performing storage and backup administration and operational tasks in compliance with specific product requirements, as well as organizational Service Level Agreements (SLAs) and Operational Level Agreements (OLAs). The Backup Administrator will be responsible for managing existing backup solutions and providing periodic reports for senior management. Proactive checks, creating automated scripts, and packages to enhance operational efficiency are also key duties. The role involves gaining experience with Virtual Tape Libraries for backup and recovery effectiveness and being responsible for all aspects of managing Backup Infrastructure, including but not limited to, installation, monitoring, provisioning, backup, recovery, and performance tuning. The administrator will work effectively across various teams and customers of Business Application Services (BAS) related to backup and storage. Other duties include developing technology standards and establishing performance guidelines for daily operations of backup and storage infrastructure, providing Tier-II support and troubleshooting for any enterprise-level backup solutions (e.g., DELL EMC Data Domain, Networker & Avamar, IBM Spectrum Protect (TSM), Veeam BR, Symantec NetBackup). The role also requires capacity planning to ensure sufficient IT/business requirements, ensuring Disaster Recovery (DR) drills and regular backup-restorations for validation, proactively identifying and resolving common root causes of issues to improve production stability, and providing 24x7 support as needed. Performing any other assigned task by the supervisor is also part of the role.Application Process
