Job Overview

The Balochistan Public Service Commission (BPSC) has announced vacancies for the position of Research Officer (B-17) within the Fisheries & Coastal Development Department, Government of Balochistan. There are two (2) posts available, with one allocated for Kalat Zone and the other for Zhob Zone. This role is essential for conducting scientific research, data analysis, and providing insights to support evidence-based decision-making in the areas of fisheries and marine resources.

Qualification and Age Criteria

Applicants for the Research Officer position must meet one of the following qualification criteria:
  • A Master's Degree (at least Second Division) in Fisheries or Marine Aquaculture or Marine Biology or Oceanography from a recognized university.
  • OR a Bachelor's Degree (B.S) (at least Second Division) in Marine Sciences or an equivalent qualification in the relevant subject from a recognized university.
The age limit for fresh candidates is between 18 and 28 years. A general upper age relaxation up to 43 years is granted by the Government of Balochistan, applicable to both fresh candidates and government servants. Both male and female candidates are eligible to apply, encouraging a diverse pool of research talent.

Examination and Syllabus

Candidates will be assessed through a Subjective Paper in General Fisheries. The detailed syllabus for this examination is available on the official BPSC website (www.bpsc.gob.pk). This test will evaluate candidates' analytical abilities, research methodologies, and comprehensive understanding of marine ecosystems and fisheries science.

General Instructions for Applicants

Age will be calculated based on the closing date of application. Candidates must submit their local/domicile certificate of their respective district. Married female candidates not already in Government Service can submit their husband's domicile certificate. In-service candidates must have their local/domicile certificate endorsed in their service record. The Government reserves the right to fill more, fewer, or no vacancies as deemed necessary. Experience must be post-qualification, gained in a regular, full-time paid job, and supported by valid documentary proof. Part-time, honorary, apprentice, or intern experience will not be counted. Eligibility will be determined after screening/professional test/examination. Ineligible candidates will be disqualified. Candidates who qualify for the written/MCQs test will be called for a Viva Voce Test. Required documents (4 photographs, Matric, Intermediate DMCs/certificates, Bachelor, Master, M.Phil., Ph.D. Transcripts/Degrees, CNIC, Experience Certificate (if required), Local/Domicile Certificate, Departmental Permission Certificate (for government servants)) must be furnished within ten (10) days of the BPSC notice. Original CNIC and Treasury Receipt (Green Challan) are mandatory for the test. Incomplete applications or those with incorrect information will be rejected. No TA/DA will be admissible for tests/interviews.

Application Method and Fee

All applications for BPS-16 and above positions, including this one, must be submitted online through the BPSC's official website: www.bpsc.gob.pk. No hardcopy of the online application is required. However, applicants without internet access may submit their applications on the prescribed form to the Balochistan Public Service Commission, Quetta, by hand or by mail on or before the closing date. The application fee for BPS-16 and BPS-17 posts is Rs. 800/-. This amount must be deposited as an original treasury receipt in the State Bank/National Bank of Pakistan (in Balochistan province) or any Government Treasury authorized to transact business on behalf of the Government of Balochistan, under the Head C02101 ORGAN OF STATE EXAM FEE RECEIPT BPSC, incorporating the relevant RCO/District-wise Code. The RCO/District-wise code is available on the BPSC website. The deadline for application submission is 23rd June, 2025 (Monday).
